Ah, Yes...the good ol' repurpose. I'm not sure if I liked or hated this assignment, but I definitely respected it. This one project turned a four page paper into a ten page commentary, and it only took upwards of fifteen drafts.
My repurpose started with an advertisement analysis written in an Intro to Communications class, progressed into a satirical piece on the qualities today's society expects of women, and ultimately ended in a dissection of a woman's social role. If I am being completely honest, I struggled with this assignment. I attribute my difficulties with this piece to my passion for the subject, which resulted in draft after draft that contained so many emotions and feelings. Frankly, they were messy. Yet, taking into account that I was writing a piece for an actual audience and discussing each draft multiple times with Raymond, I realized the importance of structure and ended up implementing it in the end. The most interesting thing about this piece, however, is that every time I look at it, I want to add some more content or adjust my tone. I am happy with the piece as it is, but I think my strong emotions for this subject have resulted in my volatile opinions about this piece. Who knows, maybe I'll return to my repurpose in a couple of years when our society has (hopefully) changed for the better. . |
