The "Why I Write" was definitely my favorite assignment. I wrote my first draft in about twenty minutes, and I was terrified to present it to Raymond- I thought he would hate it. When he gave me positive feedback, I was over the moon- all I wanted to do was perfect the piece that became so personal to me.
I played with the Why I Write assignment so much during my multiple drafts, but you would honestly never know. There were mild shifts in tone, but the content stayed 100% consistent throughout my three drafts. What surprised me the most about this assignment, and what I am extremely thankful for, was the personality traits it pretty much carved out of me. This piece is a very deep dive into my personality and inner thoughts, and it was very difficult for me to put it on paper. Yet, when I wrote down the first word that brought me to basically treat this piece as my diary, I couldn't stop. So, if you want a glimpse into who Casey Lyons is and why writing has so much weight in her life, check out my piece. |
